Dental prophylaxis

The dental prophylaxis combines all measures which serve to prevent dental diseases – for healthy teeth all life long. This includes the right nutrition and dental care at home as well as professional help and support by the team at the pediatric dental surgery.

Tooth Brushing School

Brushing teeth should start already with the first tooth. The children learn the proper dental cleaning technique in our tooth brushing school – the heart of our surgery. Here we teach the kids in a playful way how to use the toothbrush and – using the coloring technique – show them the individual weak points when brushing. The teeth of many children are closely spaced, thus inducing a high risk of so-called proximal caries. The tooth spaces can only be cleaned using floss or special small floss picks. The proper usage is explained in detail to parents and children by our prophylaxis team. You may find hints regarding tooth brushing in our FAQs.

Professional Tooth Cleaning

Using gentle polishing brushes and a polishing paste which taste of fruits we remove plaque of any kind and polish the teeth for a shining kid smile. The tooth cleaning is totally painless and effortlessly and gently prepares the children for future treatment situations.

Fissure Sealants

All molars exhibit grooves and furrows on their surfaces. These so-called fissures offer caries-inducing bacteria a good possibility for adhesion and can often not be entirely removed with a toothbrush. For deep fissures it is therefore recommended to seal healthy molars with a special light-curing synthetic material – an effective protection against caries for many years.

Nutrition

Sweet and acidic juices for children are the main cause of damage to the primary dentition today. Our prophylaxis team informs parents and children about the dangers of different foodstuffs and offers hints for a healthy diet which is gentle on the teeth without having to go without sweets. Read more about the proper children's nutrition in our FAQs.

Fluoride

Fluoride is a natural, essential trace element in our organism which increases the resistance capacity of the teeth against acidic attacks (e.g. by fruit juices). It hardens the dental enamel and can mineralise commencing dental damages again. The amount of fluoride children take in with their food is, however, most often insufficient and should therefore be supplemented. Our prophylaxis team advises parents on different forms of fluoride intake and possible alternatives.
